Payal G. Thakkar
Payal G. Thakkar joined Rotolo Karch Law in September 2017. Prior to joining the Firm, Payal served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Anthony F. Picheca, Jr., J.S.C. of the New Jersey Judiciary, Family Division, at the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville, NJ. She was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar in December 2016.
Payal received her J.D. in May 2016 from New York Law School, where she was a Public Interest Fellow. Named to the Dean’s List (Spring 2015) and the Dean’s List High Honors (Fall 2015), Payal was recipient of the Alexander D. Forger Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession. In addition, she was a School to Prison Pipeline Fellow and a Carbonell Fellow for the school’s Impact Center for Public Interest Law, and also served as a student representative for LexisNexis.
Payal attended Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, where she served as a teaching assistant, was a member of Student Affairs, Administrators for High Education, and of the Residence Hall Association.
After receiving her BA in Linguistics in May 2012 from Stony Brook, Payal entered the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She earned her Masters of Science in Higher Education in May 2013. As a graduate student, Payal served as Social Chair Deputy of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly, and as Graduate Associate of the Penn Leadership Educator’s Network Student Affairs, Administrators for Higher Education.
Prior to her New Jersey Judiciary clerkship, Payal held legal internships with the New York City Housing Authority (May 2014 – July 2014) and with the Touro College Office of the General Counsel (June 2015 – August 2015). She served as a Law Student Advocate for the Civil Rights Clinic of New York Law School from September 2015 through May 2016, and was a Policy Committee Member for Charter High School for Law and Social Justice in New York City from September 2013 through May 2015.
Payal is a trained mediator for Family Law matters, speaks conversational Hindi and is fluent in Gujarati.
